Great food and service. A quiet place to chat with friends
We ate breakfast and lunch on two separate days at The Diner. Breakfast was much superior to lunch. I do recommend it for breakfast. Lunch was average, nothing special. They tout their "chicken-fried steak" as being "famous" but it is more infamous, in my opinion. They said they breaded it on site, and they may, but it was mostly breading and made of the typical cube-type steak a lot of places get frozen from Sysco. Message to all of you restaurants out there - use "real" meat in your "chicken-fried steak" and you will own the world! I recommend good quality (no fat/no gristle) round or even top sirloin steak, tenderized with a tenderizing hammer, and NOT excessively breaded, and NOT excessively battered, also using some eggs in your batter. You will be beating customers away with a stick if you do this!
Today was our first time stopping in and they did not disappoint! It was packed to full capacity when we got in and we were still promptly seated in 10min just as te owner said we would be! The food was more than exceptional and to be so busy it came out in a flash. Hot and just as we ordered! My picker eater kids are every bite of there's. I got the omlet with all the meats (ham, bacon and sausage) and it was fantastic! Better than any other place in tyler by far.
All though I'm sure the food was great, I wouldn't know because the manager decided to stop serving like he was supposed to be & let people have a free for all ensuring we ran out of food & not I or anyone in my wedding party got to eat. Pretty disappointed. Especially considering they were LATE.
The Diner is a MUST if you are in Tyler. Parking isn't that great but if you have patience to find a space, you are in for a treat! The food is the best. Everything I've tried is great! The servers are all super nice and helpful and they make great recommendations too.
